Free and Low-Cost Classes at Your Local Retailers



Have you been hearing the words, “I’m bored” from your children this summer? If so,

check out these free to low-cost summer boredom buster crafts, DIY projects and scavenger hunts at your local retailers. Some even allow you to leave your children with them while you shop in the store while others require you to stay with your child for the experience.


 



Sessions start every half-hour from 10 a.m. to noon. Projects and fees depend on the child’s age.

  • Ages 3 to 5 cost $2 (includes supplies)

  • Ages 6 and older cost $5 (includes supplies)

Parents may shop in the store but must stay on premises the entire time.

Classes are limited in size and not all stores host the workshops, please check the in-store craft registration page for the week’s project.


  • July 18 & 20 Jamboree - Let’s make some music!  Craft your own instruments for a rockin’ good time.

  • July 23, 25, & 27  Campfire Projects - This weeks projects are all about sharing stories about your summer or made up stories of far away lands.

The Home Depot Kids Workshop is for children ages 5-12. An adult will need to stay with the child during the entirety of the Home Depot Kids Workshop.


The project kits are only available while supplies last. Registration is recommended and they host their kids workshops once a month. The next one is:


Bookworm Bookends

Saturday, Aug 4, 2018

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM


Come celebrate your child’s devotion to reading in our book lover’s hands-on workshop. Together you and your child can build a set of bookworm bookends to add personality, organization and excitement to bookshelves in any playroom, family room or bedroom.


Once your bookends construction is complete, you and your child can decorate it with paint and stickers. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

The Lakeshore Learning Center classes teach kids how to create a wide variety of crafts that they can create with little or no assistance. Children must be 3 years or up to participating.


A parent or guardian must be present with the child to supervise them and help them out if needed.


All materials provided and no reservations are required.


Class are every Saturday 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Limited locations also have crafts available every Sunday 1:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Armstrong Garden Centers July kids class series schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. – Bold Butterflies – This class will allow children to learn about the life cycle of butterflies and how they help flowers bloom. Each child in attendance will make a butterfly feeder to take home and enjoy.

  • Wednesday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. – Beautiful Birds – Gardens provide food and habitat for birds and birds help gardens grow. Kids attending this class will learn how along with planting a sunflower seed to take home.

Participate in a garden center scavenger hunt while exploring all the sights, smells, sounds, and sensations a garden can offer.


 


Have the opportunity to build and keep a mini model each month at your local Lego Store.


Sign up in advance and pick a time for your build. Every month is a different model and you get to take your mini model home--for FREE!


Registration opens at 10:00 AM ET on the 15th of the month prior. Spaces are limited for each store, so don't wait!



You must have a registered LEGO VIP email address. If you do not have one, you can create one for free at shop.LEGO.com/VIP.


  • Due to safety and build experience standards, participants must be between the ages of 6-14.

  • The mini model must be completely built in store.

  • Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and quantities are limited.

  • Lego requires that you stay with your child while they are building.
