Born in Taiwan, Yiyi Ku grew up in New Zealand and obtained her Master of Music degree with Distinction in Piano Performance and Composition from the University of Canterbury. Yiyi also holds a Licentiate in Piano Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. As a teacher, Yiyi holds certification from many professional organizations. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) from Music Teachers National Association as well as National Guild of Piano Teachers, and is an Advanced Specialist in both Piano and Theory from Royal Conservatory of Music.
Before moving to the United States in 2005, Yiyi taught extensively at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and St Margarets College in Christchurch, New Zealand. While living on Long Island, she was on the piano faculty at East End Arts Council School of Arts in Riverhead, New York.
In 2009 Yiyi moved to California, and currently lives with her husband, their baby daughter and two dogs in Murrieta. She is an active performer and collaborative pianist, and is a member of MTAC, CAPMT, MTNA, TVMTA, as well as the National Piano Guild. She has maintained a busy private studio for many years and enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels. Her students actively participate in recitals, music festivals and exams, and have been prize winners in many competitions, including Temecula Young Artist Piano Competition, Steinway Festival Competition, Inland Empire Piano Competition, Glendale Piano Competition, Southern California Junior Bach Festival, Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition, and American Protege International Piano Competition.
