Let's Play Music is a music theory course that emphasizes total musicianship through piano, playing, singing, classical music, note reading, and ear training... and that's accomplished through play! Check out this blog post for more details about what it means to be a whole musician. The exciting world of Let's Play Music is an experience where your child will learn advanced musical skills using age-appropriate methods. Music educators have long taught that the young child learns best through play, experience and discovery. Let's Play Music uses play as the medium through which difficult concepts and skills are learned. Children learn most effectively when they are playing! If you were to peek in on a Let's Play Music class, you would see jumping, singing, skipping, storytelling, and laughing! As musical concepts and skills are presented in a playful, joyful setting, children absorb knowledge and ability. The curriculum is organized into three sequential years. The first year, we use engaging games and songs and incorporate Tone Bells to teach staff awareness and rhythm reading skills. The second year, we transfer these skills to playing the piano where we also learn chord notation, intervals, and harmonic improvisation. By the end of the third year, students are playing piano at level 1-2, transposing music, composing their own music, sigh-reading music, and are prepared to excel in further private piano instruction.
I've always loved music, especially the piano, and from an early age I was surrounded by a family that loved to sing and play together. While my formal piano teacher was amazing, when I became a teacher myself I wanted to find a FUN way to teach music fundamentals and theory. That's part of the reason why I value music and play with my own children and students today. Play is natural, intrinsically motivating, and of course, fun! What I love best about play, is that it's also one of the best ways for children to learn. Let’s Play Music is an amazing program for many reasons, but one of the top reasons in my book is the emphasis on learning through play. Come join me and we will play and learn together in an amazing way.
