It was an eye-opening, informative trip to the Del Norte Recycling Center. We all learned lots of interesting information and the children asked great questions. The state of California is working to help Mexico in their recycling endeavors. Soon Southern California will implement laws similar to those in San Francisco with regards to food scraps. Food will have to be composted. My family started our worm bin this last weekend. We used shredded cardboard (from packages I've had delivered), dead leaves in the backyard for bedding and then we fed the wiggly darlings bunny rabbit droppings and chopped up ends from salads makings. Bonus, the worm castings are wonderful for our garden.
Every three months, Americans throw enough aluminum in the landfills to build our nation's entire commercial air fleet. The average person has the opportunity to recycle more than 25,000 cans in a lifetime. Recycling a single aluminum can saves enough energy to power a TV for three hours. I think we all came away with a new perspective about the importance of reuse, reduce, recycle.
