Take Note Troupe aka TNT presents “The Taming of the Shrew” May 26- June 10, 2017
Enjoy an evening with friends and family as the award winning Take Note Troupe (TNT), with generous community support, stages Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” Bollywood style. A story this lively is well served by the colorful, bold choices that a setting in India provide. And get ready for some fabulous Bollywood dance moves! TNT’s edit will include the often cut induction with a slight addition to add to the fun while highlighting the Bard’s biblical imagery with Petruchio as the long awaited Bridegroom and Katharina, the converted Bride. This context clarifies meaning and provides understanding to a play that is sometimes reduced to a superficial contest of Man versus Woman. In truth, there is so much more at stake in this play, and this staging hopes to soothe rather than inflame the age old battle of the sexes.
This play was written in and about a time when women had little say in whom they would marry. Thankfully, that is no longer true in most societies. It is TNT’s hope that audiences can look beyond this archaic societal convention and focus instead on why Katharina is a shrew and why Petruchio seeks to tame her (hint–it has nothing to do with their gender) and thus find relevance for our own battles to tame the shrew within ourselves.
